Synopsis

In the heart of Eldermere, where cobbled streets echo with old secrets and the wind whispers of forgotten oaths, Marlen the Betrayer endures an endless sentence beneath the stones of the ancient market square. Once a trusted companion to Ravenous — the dark hero who rose from shadow to defy empires — Marlen’s betrayal shattered more than just a bond; it unleashed a sorrow that reshaped kingdoms.

Condemned by Ravenous himself, Marlen’s punishment is as poetic as it is cruel: to feel, endlessly, the suffering she caused, a mirror of the torment she left in her wake. Generations pass, yet her name remains unspoken, her story buried beneath guilt and stone.

But darkness stirs again.

The Raven comes — not as vengeance, but as a reckoning. A force older than Ravenous, hungrier than hate, and drawn to the pain that clings to Eldermere like mist. To stop it, Ravenous must return to the place he once sealed with his wrath. But he cannot do it alone.

Marlen must rise.

To atone.

To face the consequences not only of her betrayal but of the truth buried deeper than her prison cell. With the reluctant aid of Merlin, Eldermere’s last true mystic, a path to redemption — or destruction — unfolds.

The Atonement of Marlen is a tale of guilt, sacrifice, and the razor-thin edge between damnation and forgiveness in a world where heroes are haunted, and traitors still bleed.

What readers whisper about The Atonement of Marlen

Really enjoyed the suspense and the darkness in these novels. Great characters, magic and imagination. Looking forward to the third novel and will be placing my order as soon as it is on sale.

A wonderful read; enthralling and original characters, developing dynamics to the storyline keep you locked in.

The ever changing environments add to the fascination, some feel very familiar, then we get taken to many completely different unimaginable Worlds and architecture.

Mr Mather breathes life into his inconceivable characters and places with his brilliant, colourful, vivid and detailed descriptions….

A born writer.

There are so many twists and turns to the plot which continually keep one guessing….. I can’t wait to read the final book to find out the ultimate outcome.

I am sure it will be an epic climax!
